5 Habits for Gratitude that Will Attract Joy in Your Life
How often do you pause and reflect gratitude and joy into your life? Most of us do not take the time to reflect on what we are thankful for each day. Our lives have become more fast paced and we have tunnel vision. It is easy to have day to day things go by and not realize the affects it can bring to us.
When we focus on what we are grateful for it widens our perspective. Our day is brighter and we appreciate our circumstances even more. Gratitude unlocks happiness as we focus more on what makes us happy. It strengthens our relationships and helps us through tough times. Rather than focus on what we lack it becomes easier to focus on what we appreciate.
Gratitude and the lack of gratitude affects on our health too. Having gratitude affects our physical state and our mental mindset. When we are happy endorphins are released into our body to strengthen our immune system. We relax, have less stress, and sleep better.
As we practice gratitude our mind begins to shift. Over time our brain will begin to look for more things to be grateful for.
How do we focus on gratitude? How do we make this shift? It takes practice to develop habits.
Here are five steps you can start doing right now to be on the path to a new habit.
1. Take time each day to write down what you are thankful for.
Some people like to write first thing in the morning. Others like to write before they go to bed. Either way pick which one is right for you and you are most comfortable with. Then stick to it. Write the same time every day. If you need a reminder set it on your calendar until it become a habit. This usually takes about 21 days.
2. Make an effort to let 3 people you know you appreciate them.
Everyday find 3 people that you can show your appreciation for them. Whether that is in writing, telling them, or helping them through something. Again if you need a reminder put it on your calendar for 3 different times throughout the day.
3. Appreciate Yourself.
This is important. If you can’t appreciate yourself then how can you appreciate others? Take time to write down a few things each day how you appreciate you. This might be tough at first but the more times you do it, it will get easier.
4. Use Social Media for Positive.
Be the friend that you are only sharing positive things. Leave the negative out.
Volunteering makes us have a feeling of well-being. Giving back makes us feel prideful. It’s like paying it forward. Someday you may need a favor in return. Know that helping others is one of the best gifts to give.
